MANSEHRA: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz lashed out at Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar on Friday for ‘speaking the language’ of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) rivals.
Speaking to PML-N social media convention, Maryam said that if Justice Nisar or the judiciary would utter remarks similar to those of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan against the Nawaz league, then ‘they should be ready for a response’.
Maryam also dismissed contempt of court allegations saying that criticising ‘unfair’ judgement of the courts does not fall in the category of contempt. She added that criticism of ‘unfair’ judgements and freedom of expression are fundamentals of a democratic society.
The former PM’s daughter, referring to the convention audience, said that Nawaz’s popularity has risen after his ouster from the premiership last year and that the people’s court has absolved PML-N President in Lodhran by-elections.
“Nawaz Sharif was ousted from premiership, but his popularity continues to grow since he can never be ousted from hearts of the people and we have seen it during Lodhran by-polls,” she said.
Maryam added that those who ousted Nawaz are now regretting the decision since their plans have backfired. “The more you try to suppress the voice of Nawaz Sharif, the stronger he will emerge,” She remarked.
