LAHORE: A ceremony was held at the Punjab University to inaugurate an office for establishing a medical college at the university.
The ceremony was held at Al-Razi Hall of the PU on Tuesday, which was attended by Higher Education Minister Syed Raza Ali Gillani, PU Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Zaffar Moeen Nasar, Academic Staff Association (ASA) President Javed Sami, ASA Secretary Iftikhar Tarrar, faculty members and students.
In his address, Higher Education Minister Raza Gillani said that provision of high-quality education was the top priority of the government. He said that a number of steps had been taken to promote the culture of research and innovation. “Establishment of the medical college is an important step, as it would provide quality education to medical students,” he said.
He said that the Punjab government was endeavouring to bring five public sector universities in Punjab among top 500 universities of the world. He asked teachers to pay special focus on weak students and help build their personalities in a positive manner.
The minister termed universities “innovation accelerators”, which inculcate new ideas and vision in students. He said that quality education was necessary for economic and social development.
Speaking on the occasion, Punjab University Vice Chancellor Dr Zaffar vowed that Punjab University would be made one of the best universities in the world. He said that medical college would be equipped with latest facilities to conduct complicated surgeries.
Acting Dean Syed Muhammad Awais briefed the participants on the project details. Later, Raza Gillani inaugurated the office of Punjab University Medical College project.
