Breakthrough research on cancer cells earns UoG scholar his PhD

A University of Gujrat (UoG) PhD scholar has earned his doctoral degree after breakthrough research into ‘impact of litchi leaf extract in suppression of cancerous tumours’.
Muhammad Javed Iqbal of the Biochemistry and Biotechnology department was declared eligible to get his doctorate degree through a notification issued by UoG controller of examinations the other day.
The notification stated that the scholar had fulfilled the quality criterion of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and that of the University of Gujrat in his thesis research work – Biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles from leaf extract of Litchi Chinensis and its dynamic biological impact on microbial cells and human cancer cell lines.
Asst. Prof. Dr Umer Rashid of UoG Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology provided the supervision in the process. The panel of foreign/external examiners consisted of Prof. Dr Irini Angelidak of Environmental Engineering Department of Technical University of Denmark; and Prof. Dr Shahid Kareem, Department of Biological Sciences, University of South Mississippi, USA.
Sarmad Iqbal, another UoG scholar at the Centre for Media and Communication Studies (CMCS), was declared eligible for the award of PhD in Media and Communications. His thesis was supervised by Chairperson CMCS Dr Muhammad Zahid Yousuf.
