KARACHI: Noha khawan Farhan Ali Waris survived a gun attack in Karachi, few hours after famous qawwal Amjad Sabri was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the city’s Liquatabad area.
Farhan was returning home after recording a programme when the shooting incident happened. The attackers fled the scene after retaliation by Farhan’s guard.
This is the second such incident to take place on Wednesday. Before the attack on Farhan, Amjad Sabri was gunned down in broad daylight.
Qari Saifullah Mehsud, spokesperson for the Hakimullah Mehsud faction, a splinter group of the Taliban, had accepted responsibility for the murder of Amjad Sabri.
Amjad Sabri was son of the renowned qawwal of the ‘60s, Ghulam Farid Sabri and the nephew of qawwali icon Maqbool Sabri who passed away in 2011.
